美國能源部（Department of Energy）簡稱DOE。 DOE依據美國能效相關法規頒布了DOE認證，這便是DOE認證的來源。

DOE頒布DOE認證其主要的目的是節能減排、幫助用戶節約電能，從而達到降低能耗需求、減少溫室效應等相關作用。現在所有在DOE認證範疇內的產品都需要滿足新法令法規的要求。

美國聯邦法規:10CFR429和10CFR430；

其中10CFR429規定了樣品選用規範和報告規範；

10CFR430規定了測試方法和符合性宣告規範。

External Power Supplies（電源適配器）：平常使用的手機、平板等的充電器；目前電源適配器DOE強制要求滿足6級能效要求；
